GREEN×EXPO 2027, the International Horticultural Expo, runs from Friday, March 19 to Sunday, September 26, 2027 on the former Kamiseya Communication Facility, open land in Seya and Asahi wards on the western edge of Yokohama. The gates are open from 9:30 am to 9:30 pm, with last entry at 9 pm. Every visitor needs a ticket and a reserved date and entry time. An adult one-day ticket costs ¥4,900 if bought by March 18, 2027 and ¥5,500 from the opening day. The site has no station of its own, so visitors arrive by a shuttle bus that must be reserved, from four nearby stations, or by car into a car park that must also be reserved.
Below are the ticket types and prices, how the timed entry works, the ways to reach the site, what will be growing in the fields and gardens in spring, which days the organisers expect to be busiest, and how a visit fits into a stay in Yokohama or Tokyo. We read the organiser's own pages, price list and press releases on October 31, 2026, together with pages from Yokohama City, Kanagawa Prefecture and two ministries, a travel trade newspaper, a trade guide for travel agents, a ticket agent and two Yokohama hotels. We did not contact the organiser, the city or the hotels. Some details, among them the direct bus timetables and the dates of individual events, had not been published on that day, and we say so where it matters. For the Japanese holidays that shape the spring crowds, see Japan's Holiday Blackouts: When to Travel →.
Key points
- GREEN×EXPO 2027 runs for 192 days, from March 19 to September 26, 2027, on about 100 hectares of the former Kamiseya Communication Facility in Yokohama. It is open daily from 9:30 am to 9:30 pm.

- Every ticket needs a reserved date and entry time. Entry times run hourly from 9:30 am to 2:30 pm, with a last one at 5 pm, and each has a cap on numbers. A reservation can be moved up to three times.
- The site is reached by a reserved shuttle bus from Seya, Mitsukyō, Minami-machida Grandberry Park or Tōkaichiba stations, about 10 to 25 minutes, or by car into a reserved car park. Direct buses from Shin-Yokohama, Yokohama Station, Minato Mirai and Kannai, and Haneda Airport are planned, with details to follow.
- In spring, the organisers' farm fields near the gate are planned to turn pink with Chinese milk vetch in March and April and gold with ripening wheat in May.

WHAT GREEN×EXPO 2027 IS
The expo's full name is the International Horticultural Expo 2027, Yokohama, Japan. It is an A1 expo, the highest class of horticultural exhibition, approved by the International Association of Horticultural Producers (AIPH) and recognised by the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE), the body behind world expos. Yokohama City notes that Japan's only previous A1 horticultural expo was the International Garden and Greenery Exposition in Osaka in 1990, which was also the first in Asia. The agriculture ministry records that AIPH approved Yokohama as the 2027 host at its general meeting in September 2019.
The theme is Scenery of the Future for Happiness. The organisers describe an expo about living alongside plants, farming and nature, told through gardens, flower displays and pavilions. The site has its own story. The Kamiseya Communication Facility was a United States military communications site, returned to Japan in 2015, about 242 hectares in all, of which about 100 hectares form the expo area and about 80 hectares the venue itself. Because the land was closed off for decades, the organisers write, it kept its farmland, gentle grassland, the headwaters of the Aizawa and Izumi rivers and the shallow valleys known as yato. The organisers say the expo is the first held in Japan to keep its working fields and rice paddies as a valley landscape after it closes, as part of the park planned for the site.
The organisers aim for more than 10 million paying visitors. Travel Voice, a Japanese travel trade newspaper, reported their forecast of 15 million visitors in all. By October 16, 2026, the organisers said about 70 countries and international organisations had confirmed they would take part, which met their target, and they publish the list as each confirmation is ready to announce.
TICKETS AND WHAT THEY COST
The prices below are from the organiser's admission ticket system, last revised on September 18, 2026. Adults are 18 and over, youth 12 to 17 and children 4 to 11; children of 3 and under enter free without a ticket. Ages are counted as of April 1, 2027, except for visits in March 2027, which use ages as of April 1, 2026.
| Ticket | What it allows | Adult | Youth / child | On sale |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| One-day, advance price | One entry on any day | ¥4,900 | ¥3,000 / ¥1,400 | March 19, 2026 to March 18, 2027 |
| One-day, regular price | One entry on any day | ¥5,500 | ¥3,300 / ¥1,500 | From March 19, 2027 |
| Night ticket | One entry after 5 pm | ¥3,500 | ¥1,900 / ¥900 | From March 19, 2027 |
| Season pass | Unlimited entry for the whole expo | ¥28,000 | ¥16,000 / ¥6,500 | Now, and during the expo |
| Special discount ticket | One entry, for holders of a disability certificate and one companion | ¥2,800 | ¥1,700 / ¥800 | Now, and during the expo |
At ¥158 to the US dollar, the advance one-day ticket is about US$31, the regular one about US$35 and the night ticket about US$22. A summer pass for July and August is also sold, and the organiser offers discounts for groups of 15 or more. The organiser says the special discount applies to visitors whose disability certificate was issued abroad, and asks them to bring the original certificate with photo ID such as a passport.
Tickets are sold on the organiser's official ticket website, which works from abroad and has an English version, and through travel agencies and authorised ticket agents. A ticket bought through an agent arrives as a ticket ID, which then has to be registered on the official site before an entry time can be reserved. JTB, one of the agents, sends this ID by email and directs buyers to the official site to reserve the entry time. Tickets may sell out without notice, and resale is not allowed. By October 18, 2026, the organiser counted 2,899,344 tickets sold, 2,860,447 of them advance one-day tickets.
HOW THE TIMED ENTRY WORKS
Reservations for entry opened on September 18, 2026 and cover every day of the expo, first come, first served. The organiser gives seven entry times: 9:30, 10:30 and 11:30 am, 12:30, 1:30 and 2:30 pm, and 5 pm, the only one open to night tickets. Each has a cap on the number of visitors. A ticket holder may come in at any point after the reserved time on that day.
A reservation can be changed up to three times. If you miss your reserved day, you can still move the ticket to a later date, and after a third change you may enter on the day if that day still has room. Whether visitors can leave and come back in on the same day was still being decided on October 31, 2026, according to the organiser's questions page.
Inside, most of the outdoor gardens and flower beds need no reservation. Some exhibits will use a second, same-day reservation: on the day of the visit, slots open on the official site at 8 am for 10 am to noon, at 11:30 am for noon to 5 pm, and at 4:30 pm for the evening, one exhibit per ticket per day. Which exhibits will use it had not been announced on October 31, 2026.
GETTING TO KAMISEYA
The organiser lists several ways to reach the site, and most of them need a reservation of their own, made separately from the entry time.
- Shuttle bus from four stations. Buses run from Seya and Mitsukyō on the Sōtetsu Main Line, Minami-machida Grandberry Park on the Tōkyū Den-en-toshi Line and Tōkaichiba on the JR Yokohama Line, taking about 10 to 25 minutes. The fare is ¥200 for adults and ¥100 for children. One reservation can cover up to 40 people for each direction on the same day. Cancelling before 5 pm the day before costs nothing; after that the charge is half the fare.
- Direct buses. The organiser says direct buses are planned from Shin-Yokohama Station, Yokohama Station, the Minato Mirai and Kannai waterfront and Haneda Airport. Operators, timetables, fares and how to reserve were still being arranged on October 31, 2026.
- Car. The North and West car parks both take reservations only. A car costs ¥5,000 on weekdays and ¥7,000 on weekends and holidays. The organiser asks drivers not to drop off or pick up guests on the roads around the venue, so a car with a driver needs its own parking reservation. Car park reservations can be cancelled free until the day before, and not at all on the day.
- Park and ride. On 19 of the busiest days, cars can park at car parks in Yamato and Sagami-Ōno for ¥3,000, with a shuttle bus to the site.
- On foot. The organiser gives about 30 minutes from Seya Station.
Seen from the city, the Den-en-toshi Line runs from Shibuya to Minami-machida Grandberry Park, which DMC Quote, a guide written for travel agents, notes makes a day trip from Tokyo possible though long. The Sōtetsu Main Line serves Seya and Mitsukyō from Yokohama Station, and the JR Yokohama Line reaches Tōkaichiba from Shin-Yokohama, the Shinkansen stop.
WHAT TO SEE IN SPRING
The organiser's plan for the Aizawa River area, right by the main gate, shows what a spring visitor will find. Its fields and rice paddies, each about 1,000 square metres, are planted to change through the expo. In March and April, Chinese milk vetch, renge in Japanese, is planned to cover one field and the paddy like a pink carpet, while wheat in the next fields comes into ear. In May the wheat ripens to gold, a season Japanese calls mugi no aki, the autumn of the wheat, and rice is planted in the paddy. Safflower, grown for dye, is planned to flower in the northern field in May and June. The organiser calls the whole schedule a plan, and the planting depends on the season.
Gardens and pavilions spread out from there. The Japan Government Garden, run by the land and agriculture ministries, presents traditional garden craft beside new farming techniques. The horticulture pavilion, Irohaniwa, shows Japanese gardening as it has been handed down since the Edo period. The theme pavilion, Nekko, roots, explores how plants connect living things. The site is laid out in zones, among them an international zone with gardens of the world and a Japan zone. The organiser counted 388 entries for its garden and flower exhibition on October 9, 2026, from every prefecture and every designated city in Japan, as well as companies and individuals. Of these, 225 are short-term indoor displays shown week by week in a hall called Hanameguri, so what is on show indoors will change from one week to the next.
Companies have pavilions in five areas the organiser calls villages. Among them, Kajima's KAJIMA TREE reuses timber from the Grand Ring, the giant wooden roof of Expo 2025 Osaka, and a Craft Garden shows plants grown for washi paper, dyes and herbal medicine, with papermaking and dyeing workshops planned. A Main Hall of about 500 seats will host the national days of the participating countries. The organiser publishes an event list, last dated September 15, 2026, and says it will keep updating it. We have not listed single events here, because the list was still provisional on October 31, 2026.
WHEN IT WILL BE BUSY
The organiser itself names its busiest days. It runs the park and ride on 19 of them, and in spring they are April 29, May 2, May 3, May 23, May 29 and May 30, 2027. The opening falls on a long weekend: March 19 is a Friday, and DMC Quote expects queues from then to March 22, a three-day weekend around the spring equinox holiday. Golden Week, from April 29 to May 5, is the peak of domestic travel; our holiday guide linked above sets out those dates.
With almost three million tickets sold by mid October 2026, mostly advance one-day tickets that can be used on any day, demand will not be spread evenly. A Tuesday to Thursday in late March, April outside the holiday, or the middle of May will be easier. Within the day, the 9:30 am slot gives the first hours in the gardens, and the 5 pm slot an evening as the light goes. The second reservation for exhibits opens at 8 am, before the gates.
A DAY FROM YOKOHAMA OR TOKYO AND WHERE TO STAY
A full day suits most visitors: the 9:30 am entry, the fields and the Japanese gardens in the morning light, lunch on site, and the pavilions in the afternoon. A half day works with an afternoon entry. From central Tokyo it makes a long day, so a night or two in Yokohama lets the visit run at an easier pace.
Yokohama's harbour side is where to stay. Hotel New Grand opened on December 1, 1927, facing Yamashita Park, itself laid out on rubble from the 1923 earthquake, and it turns 100 in December 2027. InterContinental Yokohama Pier 8 stands on a pier in the harbour at Minato Mirai. It opened on October 31, 2019, all its rooms are 46 square metres or larger, and the hotel gives Shibuya and Shinjuku as about 40 minutes away. Shin-Yokohama suits travellers arriving or leaving by Shinkansen, and DMC Quote also names Yokohama Station and Minato Mirai as bases. For those staying in Tokyo, see Where to Stay in Tokyo: The Best Areas (2026) →.
Travellers in Yokohama before the expo can see an early glimpse of it. From November 9 to December 25, 2026, Queen's Square Yokohama at Minato Mirai lights a tree of about 8.7 metres, dressed in flowers and greenery with ornaments of the expo mascot and a countdown to the opening.
WHERE STAYGO COMES IN
STAYGO plans private trips across Japan from Tokyo. If your dates fall between March and May 2027, tell us, and we will arrange your admission tickets and a reserved date and entry time, a car and driver with a reserved car park so the day starts and ends at your door, and rooms in Yokohama or Tokyo. We will look for a quieter day and hour, and on the day we will watch the 8 am release for the exhibits that need a second reservation. We arrange everything in your names, and tickets, car parks and rooms are paid at their published prices, with no commission or markup from us. Trips are planned on the Signature plan, for 7 to 14 days, or as Bespoke for longer or more complex journeys.
SOURCES AND HOW WE CHECKED
We read the pages below on October 31, 2026: the organiser's own pages, price list and press releases for dates, hours, prices, reservations, transport and exhibits; Yokohama City, Kanagawa Prefecture and two ministries for the expo's standing and history; a trade newspaper and a trade guide for forecasts and travel planning; a ticket agent for how agent tickets work; and two hotels' own pages. We did not contact the organiser, the city, the prefecture, the ministries or the hotels. Prices and rules are those published on that day and can change, and the direct buses, the exhibit reservations and the event programme were still to be announced. Dollar amounts are a guide only, at ¥158 to US$1 (October 2026).
